Six Words

Ever try and get your point across in just a few words….think about it. What did you do this past weekend? Attend an event? Learn something new at a conference? Can you describe that in just six words?

Six Words seems to have taken on a life of it’s own. Google it and you will find all sorts of examples-some very suitable for school and some not so much. Jonathon Olson uses it actively in his classroom. His older students must apply it to various forms of literature and continues to question the Six Word assignment. He continues to discuss how famous philosophers could summarize their findings in six words. Mrs. Nixon tried this with her Third Grade student. Scroll down the page to find an example of the student’s work.

Where can you apply this? To anything you want!

  •  write six words about the upcoming day
  • introductory activity to your lesson-what do you think you’ll learn
  • use SMART Response VE and type in six words in the middle of a lesson for a quick check on what the students know
  • in a faculty meeting-six words on the highlight of the meeting, highlight of the day, exciting moment coming up
  • use Padlet and type in a quick review of the video that was just viewed-how does it connect to the curriculum
