One Second of a School Day

Your class has finally finished that project. It took a few weeks and there were so many steps involved. The final project is hanging in the hall, placed on shelves in the library or in a showcase in the lobby. Parents and colleagues are commenting on how wonderful they turned out but none can truly appreciate all that went into the project except for the members of the class.

What if you had a way to show all the work that went in to it? How about making a video? This sounds like a daunting task…at first. Try just a few seconds of each day. How could one second show the all of the work that led to the final project? Cesar Kuriyama recorded one second of each day. Listen to how it led him to think about his day, learn about himself and use his time more wisely.

Great! Now you are sold on the idea. How can you do it?

  1. Think of what you want to record.
  2. Decide who will do the recording. (teacher, student, assistant, volunteer)
  3. Select parts of day/project that you want recorded.
  4. Download and save the video to a folder-be sure to name it according to the date.
  5. Upload videos to your favorite movie software in chronological order.
  6. Save the file and share. It could be shared on a secure server or through YouTube. Keep in mind that YouTube offers a privacy setting where only those with the link could view it. You could also take that link, place it in a QR Code Generator and post the code near the project.

Ideas of things to record:

  • all parts of one project
  • daily activities
  • extra curricular activities
  • in-school programs (Safety Patrols, Reading Buddies)
  • Specials/Encore classes
  • professional development events
